Persistent Chat History & Contextual Conversations

Currently, when users clear a chat in OMI, the conversation is permanently deleted, and there is no way to retrieve past chat sessions. Users need a chat history feature that allows them to access previous conversations, review past discussions, and start new chats while maintaining context.

Additionally, chats should function like ChatGPT, where:

  • Existing chats retain context for a continuous conversation.

  • New Chat starts a fresh context, independent of previous conversations.

Proposed Enhancements

1. Persistent Chat History

  • Store chat sessions so users can access past conversations.

  • Display previous chats in a dedicated "Chat History" section.

  • Users can resume an old chat or start a new one.

2. Context-Aware Chat Sessions

  • When interacting within an existing chat, past messages remain as context to enhance responses.

  • Selecting "New Chat" clears the context and starts a fresh conversation.

3. UI Improvements

  • Replace the "Clear Chat" button with a "New Chat" button.

  • Add a Chat History button to access past sessions.

  • Users can rename chat sessions for easy reference.

4. Option to Delete Chats

  • Allow users to delete individual chat history items if they no longer need them.

User Flow

  1. Open OMI Chat → See the most recent conversation.

  2. Access Chat History → View a list of previous chats, with timestamps.

  3. Continue a Chat → Resume from where the conversation left off, maintaining context.

  4. Start a New Chat → Clears context and begins fresh.

  5. Delete Chat (Optional) → Users can manually remove old conversations.

Benefits

✅ Retains valuable past conversations for reference.
✅ Allows users to continue chats without losing context.
✅ Provides an intuitive way to manage chat sessions.
✅ Works similarly to ChatGPT, making it more user-friendly.
