iOS sync is broken — thousands of files stuck in queue, almost no progress

The sync functionality on iOS is essentially broken. I have thousands of files stuck in the upload queue and the app makes almost no progress clearing them, even when left open for an entire evening on a fast fiber Wi-Fi connection. In a full evening session, only about 20 minutes worth of files were synced — this is completely unsustainable.

Closing and reopening the app does not help. The queue remains massive and the upload speed is negligible. The problem seems to be that iOS heavily throttles background processing when the screen is off, but even with the app in the foreground the sync is painfully slow.

This is a critical usability issue. If the app cannot reliably sync recordings in a reasonable timeframe, the core functionality of the device is compromised. Users who record frequently (daily use) will always end up with a growing backlog they can never clear.

I'd strongly urge the team to prioritize this — whether it's batching uploads, using background fetch more aggressively, or adding a manual "sync now" mode that keeps the process alive. Something needs to change, because right now the sync is simply not working.

  • Device: iPhone 15

  • Connection: Fiber Wi-Fi (not the bottleneck)

  • Files in queue: thousands

  • Progress in a full evening: ~20 minutes of audio synced
