Data Loss During App Disconnection

Context:

Typical morning conversation being recorded. My phone was within three feet of the Omi, no background noise, and only two speakers.

Problem:

I noticed the light on my device turned red. My phone was on and the app was running. I don't know why it lost connection and, I was very thorough when configuring my phone settings, it was not user error. During the disconnected period, I confirmed that my phone was connected to other devices like my watch and water bottle via Bluetooth.

Impact:

There is a large gap in my transcript. After ending the recording, I opened the app but didn't see a record of an offline recording since 12/18. It is like it never happened.

I clicked the button to process the recordings that were available (not sure why I have so many???) but even after doing that, nothing populated and the files it said it successfully processed never went away.

User Testing
Conditions: Quiet environment, no background noise, full phone battery, current app and device firmware (manually checked for updates in the google play store prior to start).

Parameters: The same document was read in both to test transcript quality for real time and offline processing. I also used a physical timer set to three minutes to ensure I was well over the minimum thresholds for recordings. Each recording had a few seconds at the start and end in which I stated what I was doing (variation between the two so that I could distinguish later).

Part 1 - I set a timer for 3 minutes and recorded myself reading a document. I confirmed I was connected to the phone. After three minutes, I stopped the recording.

Part 2 - I turned off my phone and started a new recording reading the same document with another three minute timer. My device light was red. Once the timer went off, I double tapped to end the recording. I turned my phone back on and reconnected.

After reconnecting, I saw that I had a four hour recording. I don’t know why I had a four hour recording and before starting part 1, I confirmed there were no recordings pending processing.

I clicked on process audio but it appeared to be stalled. I restarted the app at 1 pm and began the process again.

I circled back just now and not only did the new recording never process, I now shows no recording pending processing since 12/18.
