There have been several requests about this going back almost a year, but as far as I can tell, nothing has really changed when it comes to handling background audio or conversations.
My main reason for buying Omi was to use it as a kind of second brain for quickly capturing TODOs, ideas, random thoughts, reminders, etc. On paper, the Omi pendant seemed perfect for this.
The problem is that I work from home and often have music playing in the background. Omi picks it up unnecessarily, which clutters my conversations/notes and, more importantly, wastes minutes from my plan.
There seem to be several possible ways to solve this, but so far none of them have been implemented:
Let us configure what a single press of the pendant button does.
Ideally when I listen to music while working, I would like Omi to stay muted, press the button to start listening, say my note, then press it again to stop. Currently, muting/unmuting requires a double click, which isn’t always recognized correctly. It would also be really useful if the LED changed color while the device is muted, so you could immediately tell its current state. I believe this would be the perfect and easiest solution to implement.Integration with Plaud Note Pro.
Plaud Note Pro actually works more or less the way I want by default: I decide when I want it to record. Unfortunately, the Plaud ecosystem and its lack of integrations make it pretty terrible for my “second brain” use case. Omi has much more potential here (eg Todoist integration), so being able to use Plaud Note Pro as an input device for Omi would be a great solution.Only detect the owner’s voice.
This would probably be technically more difficult and potentially less reliable than options 1 and 2, but voice recognition that ignores music, TV, other people, etc. could also help.
Is there any plan to finally address this?
Or has anyone found a good workaround that allows Omi to be used primarily for intentional, short voice notes rather than continuous recording?
Without something like this, Omi is unfortunately pretty much useless for my use case. If I only wanted to record meetings or longer conversations, I already have Plaud Note Pro for that. What I really want from Omi is the ability to quickly capture a thought or TODO and have it become part of my second brain, without recording everything happening around me in between.
